The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Akim Oda has expressed deep concern over the alarming state of neglect and abandonment of the Oda Government Hospital.
According to the party, despite repeated promises, the hospital’s renovation has stalled, leaving the community without access to quality healthcare.
A non-governmental organization identified as the Ayipey Foundation had offered to renovate the children’s ward and provide necessary medical equipment in a statement issued by the Akim Oda Communication Bureau of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and observed by TheDailyTrustGh.com. However, the Municipal Chief Executive, Adwoa Agyeiwaa, and Member of Parliament, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, halted the project, citing government plans to undertake the renovations.
Regrettably, this renovation promise by the government was made four years ago, and the hospital remains in a deplorable state, struggling to meet the basic healthcare needs of the people.
Furthermore, the NDC has raised concerns about an apparent conflict of interest involving the MP, Hon. Alexander Akwasi Acquah, who owns a private health facility, Community Hospital, in Akim Oda.
They claim that the Oda Government Hospital is a direct rival of the MP’s medical facility.
The NDC is calling on the government, the MCE, and the MP to provide transparency regarding the stalled renovation projects.
“The people of Akim Oda deserve to know why promises remain unfulfilled while urgent healthcare needs are unmet”, the statement said
The party urges leaders to set aside personal interests and work together to prioritize the health and well-being of the people.

THE NEGLECT OF ODA GOVERNMENT HOSPITAL – A CALL FOR TRANSPARENCY AND ACTION
The health and well-being of the people of Akim Oda should be a top priority for our leaders. However, recent developments concerning the Oda Government Hospital suggest otherwise. An indigene of Akim Oda, whose NGO *AYIPEY FOUNDATION* expressed interest in renovating the children’s ward of the Oda Government Hospital and providing essential medical equipment, was inexplicably stopped by Hon. Adwoa Agyeiwaa the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and Hon. Alexander Akwasi Acquah Member of Parliament (MP) with the excuse that the government is set to undertake the renovations. It is disheartening to note that the same promise was made four years ago, yet the Oda Government Hospital remains in a very deplorable state, failing to meet the healthcare needs of our people.
Furthermore, it is alarming to observe the apparent conflict of interest involving our MP, Hon. Alexander Akwasi Acquah, who doubles as the Deputy Minister of Health. Hon. Acquah owns a private health facility, Community Hospital, in Akim Oda, which competes directly with the Oda Government Hospital. As the Oda Government Hospital struggles to fulfill its mandate to the people, Community FM—a radio station operated by the MP—consistently criticizes the government hospital. This creates a narrative that undermines the Oda Government Hospital while promoting a private facility owned by a sitting MP who holds a ministerial position in the health sector.
We call on the government, the MCE, and the MP to provide transparency regarding the stalled renovation projects at the Oda Government Hospital. The people of Akim Oda deserve to know why promises remain unfulfilled while urgent healthcare needs are unmet. We urge our leaders to set aside personal interests and work together to prioritize the health and well-being of the people.
The NDC in Akim Oda stands firm in our commitment to ensuring that every resident has access to quality healthcare. We believe that with transparency, collaboration, and dedication, we can achieve a better future for the Oda Government Hospital and, by extension, the entire Constituency.
