A team of investigators from the Eastern Regional Health Administration and the Malaria Elimination Program as well as some experts from the Noguchi Memorial Institute for medical research have visited some districts in the Eastern Region that have been invaded by some strange insects, threatening the health and livelihoods of the people.
These insects which are suspected to be of a different species of mosquitoes, bite the people on their farms and put them to sick for weeks creating fear and panic. This has caused many of the farmers to abandon their farms with its huge economic impact on food prices.
The team confirmed the incidence when they visited the Achiase District, Akyemansa District, Birim South District and Birim Central Municipality.
They visited some of the affected people who corroborated the story which started as a rumor. Traps set by the investigators have captured some of the insects and other strange ones for further investigations.
