Looming Food Crisis: Government Is Raising GHS8 Billion To Mitigate Food Crisis – Dr. Amin Adams

The Minister for Finance, Honourable Dr. Amin Adam has announced that the government has allocated 8 billion Ghana Cedis to provide relief and some mitigative measures for the farmers affected by the dry spell.
He said the government is seeking to raise about 500 million U.S. dollars, the equivalent of 8 billion Ghana Cedis, to fund the crisis response programme.
He added that his ministry is also doing budgetary realignment to reallocate some funds that were originally meant for other purposes towards addressing the crisis.
He stated that 2.5 billion have been mobilized from the budget.
He further stated that they are also relying on their developmental partners and they have had serious engagement with them over the past one week and within this short period his ministry can report that they have been able to secure one hundred and fifty-five million US dollars which is about 2.4 billion cedis.
He continued to say that out of the 8 million cedis they seeking to mobilize, they can say that they have visibility on about 5 billion cedis that they want to use to respond to the crisis.
