The Eastern Region has been chosen to host the 67th Independence Day National Celebration scheduled for 6 March 2023.
Lord Commey, director of operations at the Office of the President, led members of the national planning committee to the Eastern Region, where they informed the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs about the upcoming celebration.
The committee visited the Koforidua Youth Resource Center, the venue for the national parade, to assess its facilities and make necessary recommendations.
At a meeting at the Regional Coordinating Council, various sub-planning committees were formed with specific roles to ensure the success of the celebration.
Commey urged the region to capitalise on the event to showcase itself to the country and the world, encouraging private sector involvement for sponsorship and partnership opportunities.
He said the celebration in the region must grow and have a positive impact on the local economy.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong, announced that the event would be officially launched on 1 February 2024, expressing the region’s readiness to host its first-ever National Independence Day celebration.
This event marks the last Independence Day celebration for President Akufo Addo, who concludes his two-term presidency on 7 January 2025.
