CAF Wants Ghana To Host Women’s Champions League – Sports Minister

The Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has revealed the Confederation of African Football’s plan to host the Women’s Champions League in Ghana.

According to him, they received an enquiry from the continent’s highest governing body over the possibility of bringing the club competition to Ghana.

The Women’s Champions League was introduced in 2021 and has been played for the past three years. Egypt, Morocco and Cote d’Ivoire have all had the opportunity to host the tournament in the said period.

Ussif, speaking to Parliament’s Sports Select Committee, revealed CAF is considering the possibility of the tournament being held in Ghana.

“CAF wrote to us that they wanted us to host the Women’s Champions League,” he said.

“It is because they have seen that we have the necessary facilities, thanks to what we achieved during the African Games.”

Ghana has had two teams play at the competition since its inception with Hasaacas Ladies finishing second in the maiden edition while Ampem Darkoa Ladies finished fourth last year.

He also confirmed Ghana will host the next edition of the African Athletics Championships.

“The African Athletics Championships is also coming to Ghana next year,” he added.

The Minister was present at Parliament as they looked into the petition submitted by the Save Ghana Football Forum in February.
