Police Clash With Akyem Bosome’s Royal Family

The installation of a new Akyem Bosome paramount chief at Akyem Swedru in the Birim South district of the Eastern Region has caused a furious argument between the Akyem Swedru district police district, led by the district police commander, ASP. Philip Nketiah, and the royal family of Akyem Bosome.

The police command argues that they were not notified and it is unlawful to install” a new paramount chief for Akyem Bosome.

 

 

 

The police assert that there is a pending lawsuit over the chieftaincy of the paramount chief of the Akyem Bosome traditional area.

 

 

As a result, none of the royal families ought to install a new chief or carry out any public events that might cause confusion and lead to the loss of lives and property.

 

The installation ceremony for the new paramount chief was held, as per the report, after the traditional leaders managed to figure out a solution with the police over the argument.

 

 

 

 

However, in response to the police statement,  Nana Kwatemaa Menkyem II, the queen mother of the Akyem Bosome, stated that although there has been a chieftaincy dispute in the area for more than fifteen years, she nonetheless wants the traditional area to progress and develop, which is why she and her family heads had to install a new chief.

 

 

 

Abusuapanin Atta Debrah, a figurehead of the Agona Royal family, also clarified why the traditional area needed to install a new chief despite a chieftaincy dispute that is still pending in court.

Some residents of Akyem Swedru have expressed their feelings over the happenings in the community and also expressed mixed feelings about the new chief installation, which could pave the way for development in the area.
