Akyem Amarkrom Residents Unhappy Over Bad Roads; Demand Immediate Action

In the Denkyembour area of the Eastern Region, the people living in Akyem Amarkrom, Akyem Yaabayaaba, Akyem Charleskrom, Akyem Bowda, and other tiny villages are unhappy with the state of their roads.

According to residents, the muddy and bumpy nature of the roads, whenever there is a downpour, disrupts the easy movements of residents in the community.

Some residents of Akyem Amarkrom who spoke to Ahenkan News expressed their displeasure with the little show of commitment by the appropriate authorities towards fixing the deplorable roads from their various villages to Akyem Asene.

“Whenever it rains, the road floods massively for teachers, students, traders, patients, farmers, and others to transfer their crops, but they are not doing anything about it. This is why we have packed stones and sand in sacks to prevent the rain from going and coming.”.

“We have complained several times. The contractor came to the site to grade and create the roads about 2 years ago. The contractor says the government has not given them money, which is why they have not returned to the site. When it is time for voting, they come, but after voting, we do not see them again,” another resident added.

In all the communities around, they don’t have electricity, so they walk for about 2 hours to charge their phones in the nearby community (Akyem Asene).

They also said that due to the poor road, cars cannot use it, so when someone is ill, they put him or her on a gate for some of the men to carry the person to Akyem Asene or Akyem Oda for treatment.
