Akyem Manso Traders Bares Teeth Against A.M.A District Assembly

The District Assembly’s terms and conditions have left the traders in Akyem Manso in the Asene Manso Akroso District of the Eastern region furious.

They claim that they have discussed the difficulties they are having in the market with the assembly, including inadequate lighting systems, a lack of security, the absence of restrooms, etc.

They lamented that last year, the Business Operating Permit Department (BOP) in the district asked the traders to pay GHc5 per cubicle every month, but in August, the officers informed them that they were to pay GHc20 per month, which they didn’t accept because it was too high for them to pay.

“On August 25, 2023, we submitted the letter that we were requested to provide in order for them to accept our petition. Before they started shutting our stores on Thursday, November 30, 2023, we never heard from them” They said.

Speaking to Mr. Williams Ebow Baadu, the traders union secretary, continued by saying that their goal is to promote the interests of traders rather than engage in political posturing.

According to him, the vendors were requested to pay for the same cubicle twice after the district collected money from them to partition the market into cubicles.

“This is unfair, and the increase is too high for them to pay each year,” he said

He stated that the assembly didn’t inform the traders about the act, which was insolence, and has also told the traders that if by Monday, December 12, 2023, they haven’t paid the money, they will no longer be allowed to be in the cubicle, but all the same, the district should hear their pleas.
