NPP No Longer Values Ghana’s Interests – Asamoa Buaben

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) director of communications Mr. Yaw Buaben Asamoa says that the party has moved its emphasis from Ghana’s growth to self-interest.

The former Adentan Member of Parliament, Mr. Asamoa, emphasized that the NPP has strayed from its founding principles.

In a November 21 interview with Citi TV, Mr. Asamoa gave his reasoning for joining Alan Kyerematen’s “Movement For Change,” claiming that the party’s present course does not serve Ghana’s interests.

He emphasised the need for change, stating, “We believe it is time that the right things are done. The elephant is supposed to serve the people of Ghana. When it gets to the point where it becomes self-serving when it is supposed to look at the interest of Ghana, it begins to focus more on its interests and appearance, then it’s time to move on and serve the public.”

Yaw Buaben Asamoa and three other prominent NPP members – Hopeson Adorye, Nana Ohene Ntow, and Boniface Abubakar Saddique – publicly endorsed and campaigned for independent presidential candidate Alan Kyerematen.

As a consequence, the NPP stated on Monday that the four individuals had forfeited their membership in the party for violating the party’s constitution, specifically Articles 3(5)(A)(4) and 3(9)(1).

The NPP highlighted Article 3(9)(I) of its constitution, which stipulates that a member who stands as an independent candidate against the officially elected party member, or who joins or declares support for another political party or independent candidate when the party has sponsored a candidate in a general or by-election, automatically forfeits their membership in the party.
