Akyem Oda Forestry Commission Arrests Galamseyer In Pranum Forest Reserve; Others Flee.

The Akyem Oda Forestry Commission in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern region, led by the assistant district manager, Mr. Richmond Amo-Adjei, has arrested one galamsey excavator machine operator, Ahmed Nuhu, for unlawfully entering the Pranum Forest Reserve and engaging in illegal mining activities.

The report indicates that two excavator machines were left behind as Nuhu’s team fled.

Mr. Richmond Amo-Adjei, the Assistant Manager of Akyem Oda District Forestry Commission in the Eastern region, divulged to the media that the arrest was made possible by intelligence gathered by the Forestry Commission, which indicated that some galamseyers had entered the Pranum Forest Reserve near the Asante Akyem area on the Pra River.

The commission’s team of forestry guards quickly responded to the tip-off and apprehended Nuhu.

According to him, “One excavator machine operator, Ahmed Nuhu, was apprehended by the forestry guards upon entering the forest, while the other operators were able to flee, abandoning their two equipment in the forest”.

He discloses that the suspect has been handed over to the Dwaso police command, which has police authority over the Pranum forest, to conduct further investigations to apprehend Ahmed Nuhu’s galamsey team members to face the law.

Mr. Richmond Amo-Adjei, cautioned galamsey operators to stay away from the Pranum Forest Reserve, emphasizing that it’s a no-go area for such activities.

He also advised residents living close to the forest to report any destruction or suspicious activities to the Forestry Commission.

The Forestry Commission is working to arrest the rest of Nuhu’s team and bring them to justice.
