The Omanhene of Akyem Bosome Traditional Area in the Eastern Region, Okotwaasuo Kantamanto Oworaen Agyekum III, has appealed for the government’s intervention to resolve a 10-year-old chieftaincy dispute.
This, according to him, will promote peaceful coexistence in the community.
The chief made the appeal when Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia visited his palace as part of his nationwide campaign tour.
He stated that several chieftaincy issues in the country have become an albatross on the neck of many communities, hampering peace and stability.
Citing the resolution of the disputes of the Ga and Dagbon traditional councils, the chief emphasised that, the government must as a matter of urgency put in place measures to restore peace in every community in Ghana.
For the part of Dr Bawumia, he pledged the government’s commitment to promote peaceful coexistence between chiefs and their people.
He unveiled plans to increase the benefits received by traditional rulers in Ghana.
Dr. Bawumia explained that, the move is in recognition of the traditional rulers’ pivotal role in the country.
