E/R: Oda-Nkwanta Rice Farmers Cry for Help As They Struggle To Get Buyers

Rice farmers in the Akyem Oda-Nkwanta in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern region have lamented their inability to get buyers for their rice.

According to the farmers, thousands of bags of rice harvested during the last farming season in the area have remained in the warehouses and homes as farmers struggle to find buyers.

Some of the farmers indicated that the major rice off-takers in the area stopped buying their rice because the prices of imported rice have become lower.

Speaking to Ahenkan News, some of the rice farmers suggested that, the government should purchase their rice for the various schools to help push their businesses.

Mr. Albert Brako, a rice mill operator at Akyem Oda-Nkwanta recommends the local rice to Ghanaians and traders to buy because it’s healthy for the body.

Lastly, Mr. Brako noted that the price of local rice has been reduced, now 70kg (a bag of rice) is GHC700.00 which is cheaper than the foreign rice whereby 50kg is sold around GHC600.00.
