Assembly Members Welcomes Bawumia’s EASCF Policy

The Ghana Association of Assembly Members (GAAM) has applauded the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for incorporating one of its pressing issues into its manifesto. The Association’s National President, Hon. Ackah Nelson Frank, while addressing the press, expressed his gratitude to the NPP for listening to their concerns.

“We are thrilled that the NPP has taken our advocacy seriously and included one of our key concerns in their manifesto. This demonstrates their commitment to the welfare of Assembly Members and the development of local governance in Ghana.”

The GAAM National President highlighted the specific issue addressed in the manifesto, stating, that the inclusion of the “Electoral Area Share of the Common Fund (EASCF) for Assembly Members to facilitate development at the Electoral Area level”, strengthens the capacities of Assembly Members, and enhance their roles in local governance is a significant step forward. We believe this will lead to more effective and efficient governance at the local level, as we have pressed on this issue for quite some time.

Hon. Ackah Nelson Frank further emphasized that GAAM looks forward to collaborating with the NPP to ensure the successful implementation of these initiatives when they come to power. “We are ready to work with the NPP to make sure these promises are translated into tangible benefits for Assembly Members and the communities they serve.”

The Association says they will continue to engage with all political parties to ensure that the concerns of Assembly Members are prioritized. “We will hold all parties accountable for their promises and work towards creating a better environment for local governance in Ghana.”

GAAM’s commendation of the NPP’s manifesto is a significant endorsement, not limited to all recognized political parties in the country, as the Association represents the interests of all Assembly Members across the country. Their support underscores the importance of addressing the concerns of local leaders in Ghana’s political discourse.

The move by the NPP is seen as a strategic effort to gain the support of Ghanaians and perhaps the Assembly Members who play a crucial role in grassroots development. By addressing their concerns, the party aims to build a strong foundation for local governance and development.

GAAM’s leadership has called on all Assembly Members to rally behind the NPP’s manifesto and any other party that prioritizes their needs and work together to ensure its successful implementation. “We must put aside our political differences and work towards the common goal of developing our communities,” Hon. Ackah Nelson Frank urged.

As the electoral season heats up, GAAM’s endorsement of the NPP’s manifesto is expected to influence the decisions of Assembly Members and their constituents.

The Association’s commitment to advocating for the welfare of Assembly Members and promoting effective local governance is commendable, and their partnership with the NPP is a positive step forward.
